Updated Spanish Style Home
Mission Hills, California
The clients wanted to modernize and add more flow to their Mission Hills home.
We began by removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room and created an island with bar seating for casual meals and family and friends to gather.
We also opened the space to the breakfast nook by removing walls on both sides, one which we replaced with a railing to extend sight lines through the home.
In the living room we painted bookshelves to refresh the space without removing cabinetry and refinished the wood floors – taking them from a reddish hue to a smoky brown. Throughout the home we squared off arches for a modern update but left one arch at the entry to keep some of the character. We added new furniture both downstairs and upstairs, as well as new carpet and window treatments in the bedrooms. In the master bedroom, we gave the fireplace a fresh coat of paint to modernize the space and create a focal point that tied together the black, gray and white palette.
