Transitional Breakfast Nook
Del Mar, California
In the dining room, I created a nook in front of the picture window with a custom built-in banquette and benches. We used two-toned wood for the storage to mirror the two-toned cabinetry in the kitchen, which is adjacent to the nook. We also installed custom window treatments as well as pillows and cushions in an outdoor fabric to make them more durable and easier to clean. The client wanted a reclaimed wood table but since the area was designated for homework as well as dining, it needed a smooth surface. The solution was to use textured reclaimed wood in the center and frame it with smooth wood.
